Description
Custom Story Level Pack. Go to save a world with no name, one that isn't all too welcoming.

Another World is a story-based level collection created by DXL44. The story follows the player when they are recruited by Sunrise, a member of a multiversal order of protectors called the Navigator Stars, to save a distant universe in imminent danger. The player-character, named Hal, is a small square from a world of other similar shapes who is granted the abilities to dash and foresee attacks from the three crystals that follow them.[1]

Created originally with no long-term planning and only the lyrics of its first level in mind, Another World was revised over time to expand on it. The collection has one out of its three planned chapters finished. Another World is the second most popular collection of all time on the Steam Workshop.[2] In May of 2022, DXL44 released a YouTube video stating that the collection was on an indefinite hiatus with no plans to be finished.[3] On June 30th, the description of a YouTube stream would confirm that Another World was now cancelled.[4]

History

The first level in Another World was released with Shape of the Sun. At this time, the story was not planned out very much, and the lyrics of the song were used for most of the story decisions.

Around 5/5/2020, an image teaser for the story was released, showing blueprints for a device called "The Sphere" taken directly from the story.

On 6/1/2020, a mini-ARG was held with some more documents directly from the story hidden in DXL44's 1000 subscriber announcement video. These documents all described and revealed certain things in the story and are visible here. The files revealed are below:

…the Dagger is pretty much all I’ve got to protect me from myself now. I have no clue how it even DOES that thing it does, but it works, which is all I need it to do.

...Decided to try and train a bit more. Not much really happened. I feel like training is just null and void at this point with how I'm never able to make use of it.

I'm getting bored of this. Where’s the adventure? The great mission? The uh...anything?... I have this power, and nothing happens that lets me use it. That sucks. Then again, sometimes I wonder if that's for the best. After all, I barely understand it myself.

[1]: So, if I'm looking at this correctly, this "Sphere" of yours should protect us.

[2]: Yes. That's the goal. Protection for all! Our planet will be immovable against any threat.

[3]: I must say...the costs of it are a bit concerning.

[3]: And don't you think that you're asking too much of [1] here? The amount of his power he'd have to give up is immense.

[1]: I don't care about that! If this is for the good of all, I'm in.

[2]: I like that enthusiasm.

[2]: Now...let's discuss royalty costs, shall we?

[3]: Royalty costs?

[2]: Yes. This is a buisness proposition after all. I'm not handing you my technology for free.

[1]: I thought this was a force for good, not greed.

[2]: Well I gotta make a buck somehow. My previous projects haven't been all too successful.

[1]: That's because your previous projects were unethical, dangerous, and bad in many other ways!

[2]: Debateable. My antimatter research is on the verge of many breakthroughs. And the AI experiments have progressed further than imaginable.

[3]: [1]...Its just buisness. I'll pay for it, and its deserved.

[2]: THANK YOU.

[1]: Okay...let's get started.

[Log 415 - Date Unknown]

I can't believe it - they kicked me off. They kicked me off the team working on the Sphere. And STOLE MY WORK.

It became clear to me pretty fast that the idiot in charge wanted to use this as a prison, not a procetion. Her green friend is completely clueless to this and is blinded by the thought of the heroic sacrifice. I couldn't get the real point of the Sphere through to them.

They threatened to activate it if I started on any dangerous projects as a response to my departure. That shows they see me as a threat to other worlds beyond this one. I like that feeling, they sure as hell better be scared.

Its clear that this world shouldn't be run the way it is. So I'm going to take it back. There are many different sources of power here, yet nobody has decided to take them all into their own hands. With my plan, I'll collect power from not only this planet, but another world as well.

Tomorrow I will restart the antimatter project, to try and see what I can make of it. I'll also set up a trap for one certain individual I have had my eye on the power of for a while...someone who is letting their power foolishly go to waste.

[Log 421 - Date Unknown]

Everything that could go wrong...did go wrong. For starters, the Sphere was activated as I barely got started on the Anitmatter projcet. Then, this stupid square thing ("Hal" it was called?) came out of ABSOLUTELY NOWHERE, DISTRACTED MY TARGET, AND MADE THE TRAP USELESS. And the icing on this absolutely terrible cake is that the antimatter portal was activated again - not by me, but COMPLETELY ACCIDENTALLY by this "Hal". They summoned some sort of...antimatter version of themself.

"Hal" may not know it yet...but they've made a new enemy.

[Log 422 - Date Unknown]

There has been good news on the Antimatter. I was able to summon the strange creature born from it back to my lab, and managed to...kind of train it. I got across to it that I was the reason it was here, and that I could get it back home if it helped me out with my projects. I...actually can't get it home yet. But once I gain enough strength, nothing will be impossible, so I don't see why I won't be able to. I don't want to make an empty promise, after all. The poor creature is probably confused out of its mind.

In the meantime, I've dispacted a freelance contractor to take care of Hal. Knowing their history, they should perform well with their focus.

File P-One

The Navigator Stars are suppousedly a race of sentient celestial beings that roam the skies above many different worlds. They seemingly exist only as a legend, as nobody has documented seeing one. The stars were used as the first form of navigation, and the Navigator Stars (hence their name) are no different. They exist to guide heroes to save worlds in danger, and its up to them to pick the right person for the job. Do they exist? Nobody knows, but its likely that the multiverse would be a much worse place if they didn't. My bets are on the fact that they do exist, and possibly are still

sending heroes to this day.

On 6/21/2020, additional information was revealed:

"All █████████ █████ have crystal-like features that are the core of their power. These are what give them the power to not only send heroes, but prepare them as well. These crystals, or “shards” which they’ve been referred to as occasionally, fall off upon the death of their owner. Crystals from fallen █████████ █████ are used by other █████ to create the smaller crystals that are given to the Heroes they send. These mini-crystals grant Heroes the ability to temporarily render themselves intangible while moving in short bursts and see a sixth sense "warning" for anything dangerous before it happens."

Plot

Prologue

In the supernatural universe of Elevatia, the Navigator Stars watch over several different universes in the multiverse, sometimes sending Heroes to save worlds in danger. Sunrise, the star responsible for overseeing Another World's universe, is having a conversation with fellow Navigator Star Centari when they are alerted by Ray that a "sphere" and dark portal have been activated, putting the universe in danger. Sunrise says that they will need to find and send the Hero they chose - a small, pink square named "Hal". Despite points made from both Centari and Ray against Sunrise's choice, they set out for Hal's homeworld to recruit them as a Hero.

The Mission

Hal, minding their own business in their own world, is suddenly alerted by Sunrise about a dangerous threat in a distant universe. After challenging Hal to a test of their power, Sunrise sends Hal off to [THERE], where they are tasked with finding and eliminating the threat. Hal heads through many different universes.

The Arrival

Once reaching the far-off world, Hal realizes that some enemies from different universes have followed him and fights them off quickly. Shortly after, he runs into DXL and gets into a fight with him. After the fight, however, Hal tells DXL that he isn't there to fight, and DXL explains that it was a misunderstanding on his part. Hal asks DXL for help with directions to a location that Sunrise gave. Once they arrive at the location, a portal there releases Dark Hal, who fights against the pair but leaves afterward.

Rising Danger

After the fight, Hal is ambushed by Bond at night. Bond says that he is there to collect a bounty for Hal's capture or killing. In the fight, Field tries to save Hal but is shot dead by Bond. Hal manages to escape, but the encounter adds to its fears of the new world's dangerous foes. He tells DXL that he will seek out Sunrise for help. After reaching Sunrise, things go wrong quickly. Dark Hal returns, possessing Sunrise and turning him into Eclipse. At the end of the fight, Sunrise's powers are completely expended from trying to break free, and he dies, with only his spikes remaining as shards. Dark Hal promptly steals the shards and gets away, leaving Hal confused and worried about what to do next. Next, Hal runs into Purpura. She mistakes Hal as a “dark monster”. She reveals at the end that she had found Hal through a bounty. Hal and DXL decide to follow the address the bounty had for the person who set it. DXL heads off ahead of Hal, but Hal is stopped once again by Bond before they can catch up. Bond, at the end of his fight, mentions how his client had been waiting long enough. Leaving Bond behind, Hal heads on towards the address, hoping that they didn’t fall too far behind.

False Finale

This leads to their exploration in the Tiger’s Den, the headquarters building of Powersound Industries. They realize DXL went inside already and quickly go through, avoiding the security systems. After reaching the end, the player reaches Quinzoid, who reveals himself as the one who sent Bond and set the bounty that Purpura followed. After a fight against Quinzoid and Dark Hal, who Quinzoid reveals himself as behind as well, Quinzoid resorts to self-destructing the skyscraper, seemingly dying in the explosion as the player escapes.

Soon after escaping, they run into DXL, who seemingly is convinced that they are the cause of everything going wrong. Breaking his dagger after throwing it into the ground, DXL becomes Hyper DXL and attacks the player using all of his power. However, he barely understands what he is doing and how it works, leading to an explosion from the dagger knocking him out. The dagger is quickly lifted away by a blue orb after it falls to the ground.
