Opening

The opening has little gameplay and is mostly dialogue-focused. Sunrise appears and asks Hal how their adventure [THERE] is going, trying to reassure them.

Checkpoint 1

Dark Hal appears and suddenly dashes into Sunrise, transforming Sunrise into Eclipse. There are some pulses to be dodged, as well as lasers. Eclipse will move offscreen to the top, with a short segment involving walls taking over quickly.

Checkpoint 2

As lasers come from the walls on both sides, Eclipse will descend back onscreen from the top. This part is where the boss-fight begins. Eclipse's attacks consist of the following:

  • Giant laser beams.
  • Sending down a pulse wave from the top of the screen that needs to be dashed through.
  • Bullets of different varieties.
  • Moving around the screen fast.
  • Rotating laser bars.

At the end of the section, Eclipse will go offscreen to the top.

Checkpoint 3

This part takes a break from the boss-fighting. There are walls on the top and bottom of the screen, with bullets and lasers to be dodged. At the end of this segment, the camera will zoom in and a warning will appear, indicating that the screen is about to start scrolling up.

Checkpoint 4

Right after this checkpoint is a scrolling gameplay section. There are bullets coming from walls on the left and right side of the screen, but they don't go too far off. The main attack to avoid here is two beams slamming together. The scrolling stops with a beam slam in the middle that grows to take up a large amount of the screen.

Next up is the maze gameplay. It opens with a square shooting out waves of bullets. Next, there are two columns of squares that need to be dashed through to navigate. A small hall of bullets follows, with a spinner up next. The section finishes with two bars moving left to right, and a warning for Sunrise's reappearance.

Checkpoint 5

Sunrise reappears and does some more dialogue stuff. There are some lasers and small pulses to avoid.

Checkpoint 6

Sunrise will send out several bullet rings as he slowly transforms back into Eclipse. Eclipse's second round of attacks is similar to the first, with a few new attacks thrown in such as pulse wave slams and rotating bars.

Checkpoint 7

This segment is similar to Checkpoint 3, but with new spike-styled attacks to replace the lasers. The bullets are the same. At the end of this a warning will appear in the center of the screen.

Checkpoint 7

Sunrise reappears in the center, as all of his spikes fly off of his body one by one. They form a circle and spin around, as the camera zooms in. Sunrise dies in a flash of brightness.

All the shards fall to the ground and are promptly picked up by Dark Hal. The level is complete after this.

Trivia

  • This level is often credited for bringing the Another World collection to a rise in popularity.
  • One of the main purposes of this level was to give Sunrise more character as a guide and friend - he didn't do much in Shape of the Sun besides stare into your soul with an OvO face.
  • Sunrise's death was not caused directly by Dark Hal, it was caused due to Sunrise trying to fight back but failing and using all of his power in the process.
    • Only the "shards" remain because they are the core of Sunrise's powers.
  • Several attacks and other things here are references or callbacks to Shape of the Sun:
    • The laser attack at the beginning references Sunrise's laser attacks.
    • The usage of arrows for bullets references an arrow bullet prefab used in the original level.
    • The walls in the "break" segment reference the spiked walls shown in Shape of the Sun.
    • The maze segment is meant to be a better take on the maze idea present in Shape of the Sun.
