Description

PHOTOSENSITIVE SEIZURE WARNING: This level contains lots of flashing lights and colors!

Exploring space... Seems quiet and peaceful, or is it?

Exploring Space is level created by Jolly Jack. The level features a colorful theme throughout, as well as visual sections that "split" the screen into four for a short cinematic, and is an Advanced difficulty. It is also one of the levels featured in PA Memories (2.1).

Layout

Start

The level fades in from black, as square bullets drift across from the right. After the screen turns white, small walls appear on the top and bottom. They rotate slightly on the beat, as bomb pulses appear across the screen and release spreads of bullets. Following this, the screen once again flashes white and then black while the walls reappear on the left and right side of the screen. The bomb pulses continue, as bullets appear from the walls and drift across.

Checkpoint 1

The screen flashes to black and fades in, with larger walls forming on the top and bottom. A large helper with an arrow pointing right appears on the left side of the screen as the buildup reaches its peak, with the walls disappearing in a flash.

A pair of sawblades appears on the left side of the screen, chasing the player as the screen scrolls to the right. The camera movement pauses as a circle appears in the center. It remains there as laser attacks appear briefly, with shapes sweeping across the top and bottom of the screen as well. This pattern then repeats three times, with variations in the shapes, directions, and screen rotation.

Following the last laser attacks, the screen fades from black into a setting with a large square rotating in the center. The shape spins and sends out bullet attacks, as small walls pulse in on the corners of the screen repeatedly. The square sends out a ring of smaller squares, which all begin orbiting the shape in the center as the screen flashes black. The large square then disappears and is replaced with a new shape - this pattern repeats three more times with variations in shape until there are three sets of orbiting shapes moving across most of the screen. Rather than a fourth set appearing, the three rings begin to shrink in size - forcing the player to move towards the center of the screen.

Checkpoint 2

A beam slowly moves down from the top of the screen, which needs to be dashed through. Shortly after dashing through it, a small cinematic plays which splits the screen into two and then four segments - with the dash replaying in each one. This is purely visual - no additional dashing is required. In a flash, the gameplay returns. A set of bullets appears in the center of the screen, which is soon pushed outwards by a pulse. Alongside it, attacks cover the left and right of the pulse. This pattern is repeated three more times with variations in direction, with a circular barrier appearing on the final repetition instead of two walls.

In the second half of this checkpoint, a hexagonal arena appears as a circle sends out bullet explosions from the center of the screen. The hexagon wall moves alongside the circle as it drifts across the screen. It also shrinks every few seconds, reducing the play area further and further until the end of the checkpoint.

Checkpoint 3

Thank you all so much for being incredibly kind and supportive during these last few months!

An assortment of square and triangle bullets appear from the right side of the screen. Text showing the credits for the song as well as a thank-you message from Jolly Jack appears, with the level ending on an image of Jolly Jack's logo against a black background.
