Description
A level made of 16 levels with music by 14 artists, worked on by 15 level creators for over 6 months. Happy anniversary, Project Arrhythmia.

PA: Memories [1] is a Project Arrhythmia mega-collaboration created to celebrate the first anniversary of the game’s Steam early access release. It features remade sections multiple different memorable custom levels, all set to a mash-up created for the collab. The level was organized and hosted by TNTz, with numerous other creators participating - mostly those with their levels featured.

Since it’s release, PA Memories 1 has become the basis for the Memories level series - starting with its sequel PA Memories (2.1), which released the following year.

Opening

The level opens with the Memories logo appearing in the center of the screen and a short intro to go along with it..

Checkpoint 1 (Coalesce)

Coale appears in the center of the screen pulling bullets towards an orb being held in the center as more bullets fall from the bottom. He then uses three hands to pull in a giant circle barrier while sending out lasers from the center screen.

Checkpoint 2 (Node)

Walls appear on the left and right as Mecha comes onscreen. Bullets will appear from the bottom, and Mecha will occasionally send out a giant pulse that needs to be dashed through.

Checkpoint 3 (Deep Inside My Soul)

This segment has lasers coming from the center with occasional curved waves being sent out.

Checkpoint 4 (Peer Gynt)

This part starts with Myst appearing in the center and teleporting around the screen to attack while small ghosts throw bones from the sides. Shade then comes onscreen at the top and throws down three candle lights, exiting with a giant ring of bullets. Cameli appears next and sweeps across the screen with laser attacks, followed by Bond showing up in the middle to shoot out bullets. Ghost Boss Lad dashes around the screen and uses laser attacks next, and the segment finished with Spike shooting bullets from the top. The camera begins to glitch out as the next part transitions in.

Checkpoint 5 (ℵ0/Aleph-0)

Three versions of Aleph Zero appear in rapid succession (v1, v2, Final). The section ends with a combination of all versions.

Checkpoint 6 (Battle of the Bits)

This segment opens with several hexagon pulses, as arrow bullets come from the outside. Laser beams quickly are added into the mix of attacks.

Checkpoint 7 (Party Time)

N.A.T.U. comes onscreen and attacks the player. The part ends with N.A.T.U. grabbing two parts of a heart, combining them with an image of Crazy Train appearing in front as the next part transitions in.

Checkpoint 8 (Crazy Train)

King Crazy appears in the center, pulling down two walls and bouncing between them. Then, several bullets are sent towards the center from train's encircling the arena, with King Crazy bouncing down with a BOGO stick to finish off. There's a short break after this.

Checkpoint 9 (Regain Control)

This part has two possible outcomes: the first being a grid colored yellow, the second with a square in the middle shooting arrows colored pink.

Checkpoint 10 (Opia)

A grid appears on the screen, with Nowo in the middle. Attacks pulse in the middle of a square, rendering that square to hit the player. After that, the grid disappears and Nowo becomes a spinner as spotlights enter the playfield. The part ends with Nowo spitting out an OwO worm.

Checkpoint 11 (Lights)

Bombs appear on the side, with ">ᗜ<" faces popping out of it. After that, OwO worms appear on the side as the screen moves to the right. The part ends with the screen immediately moving to the left.

Checkpoint 12 (Amnéhilesie)

Text appear on the screen in French. The part opens with bullets and circular attacks, and then more lasers are used.

Checkpoint 13 (Algebra)

After a quick pulse to begin, math questions appear on the top, while answers appear on the bottom. The player must choose the right answer to not get hit, all while having bullets fire from the right and left. Hands appear on the screen and grab the display as the next part transitions in.

Checkpoint 14 (Lavender Town Haunting)

A giant wall with eyes appears on the right if the screen, and sends out some spikes. A similar wall moves in from the left, with text reading "Anxiety" showing up at the top. Two of The Unknown's hands move in, one from the top and one from the bottom. The gameplay transitions into a scrolling segment, with firework-like bombs coming up from the bottom of the screen. This section fades to black at it's end.

Checkpoint 15 (Sphere)

Many different sized lasers make up the attacks here. The smaller they are, the more common they are used.

Checkpoint 16 (Dimension)

Bombs appear on-screen with laser attacks accompanying them, and occasional waves going across the screen. Halfway through, a vaporwave-style background appears to take over, the "sun" will need to be avoided as it does damage you.

Checkpoint 17 (Ending)

This part has the credits for the level.

Trivia

  • Notably, LockDrop is credited for the most “backup” parts - with him creating three parts for the levels of other creators. This would start of a trend followed in future Memories levels, where one creator would end up covering multiple other parts.
  • Memories 1 took about 6 months to make.
  • Due to the song Crazy Train not having appropriate permissions for use in custom levels, the part for Crazy Train had its music replaced with the Spider Man 2 Pizza theme some time after the level’s release.

Easter Eggs

  • Near the beginning of the Peer Gyntening section, the words “peppa pig jigsaw puzzle” can be seen in Myst’s mouth the second time it opens. This is a reference to a running joke between multiple creators in the community and Official Dre, where the phrase is hidden in a level he may end up playing.
  • Also in the Gyntening section, the text labeling Peer Gynt v2 is subtitled with “fuck this part in particular”.
  • Whenever LockDrop is credited for making a part, an additional message (Subscribe!) will appear. The only exception is the end credits, where a secret message briefly appears that says to subscribe to LockDrop and everyone else listed.
  • In the break at the Crazy Train section, a small, faint message shows up at the bottom that says “Good Luck! -The Craziest Train”
