Pilate is a boss character created by Bugsontoastt/UnexplainedTowels and Noodlekin. He is the main antagonist in the Heartstrings storyline, where he steals the Heart.
History
Background
Before the events of Heartstrings, Pilate set sail for Arcadia and eventually gained the throne.[1] After a recommendation from Spectra he sought after the Heart to cure his sadness.
Heartstrings
Shortly after the Emissary is released from the Heart, they fight against Ophelia who comes to the wrong conclusion that they intend to harm it. Taking advantage of Ophelia’s distraction, Pilate kills her and takes the Heart for himself at the end of the fight. He proceeds to frame the Emissary for her murder, telling Wiccan that it was their fault and leading to him seeking revenge.[2] When he fails, Spectra goes to attack the Emissary despite Pilate’s warnings, as she believes Pilate needs the Heart to be happy.[3]
Description
Appearance
Pilate is a blue octagon with a thick outline, wearing a crown on the top of his body. He has two circular, white eyes with blue rectangle tears falling from each. He has been shown with pointed arms that resemble a spider’s at the end of Twilight.
Personality
Pilate is a calculated and somewhat cold individual. He is constantly crying, no matter what emotion he is feeling. He is shown to be a manipulative and pathological liar when he told Wiccan that The Player has murdered Ophelia. He does however seem to also care deeply for those he loves and shows concern when Spectra leaves to attack Hal.
Abilities
- Able to summon spikes similar to the one he used to kill Ophelia in Twilight.
Relationships
- Spectra - Pilate has a tight, clear friendship evident from the cutscenes between the two of them.
- The Emissary/the player - There has not been much interaction between the two of them, but it is implied that Pilate dislikes the player as shown by him consistently sending out people from his court in an attempt to kill them.
- Wiccan - Wiccan and Pilate have purely business relations, with little to no friendship or positive points attached. Pilate has been shown to have little disregard for Wiccan's feelings as indicated when he has lied to Wiccan in order to anger him enough to go after Hal on his own initiative.
- Cygnus - it is unknown how Cygnus and Pilate knew each other, but Pilate was able to send them after the Emissary in their dreams - implying some sort of contact between the two.
Trivia
- Pilate’s boss model in Twilight was created by ol666.
- Pilate appears in ol666's level Mutant as the fourth boss. This level shows him with 8 fully jointed spider legs, compared to the two arms that he is shown with in Twilight.
