Description

[Please play on Dev or Legacy branch]

I took a boss fight from A Hat in Time and turned it into a level! Face off against the Conductor in a battle for the last Time Piece.

The Battle of Award 42 is an Advanced difficulty level made by MotionIII. It is his fifth uploaded level overall and is based on the boss fight against The Conductor from the indie 3D platformer A Hat in Time. The player must square off against The Conductor in a battle to obtain the Time Piece he has.

Layout

The backdrop of the level uses 3D background objects to recreate The Conductor's stage, complete with a platform, curtains, and a visualizer. Most attacks are direct references to attacks from the fight in A Hat in Time.

Start

This last time piece is all mine, If yer want it, yer gonna have to take it from me COLD DEAD HANDS!
- The Conductor, The Battle of Award 42

A rotating disco ball hangs from the ceilings as spotlights fall down. Some spotlights hang from the corners and shoot orange lasers. The Conductor makes his entrance by riding the disco ball down into the floor, causing a shockwave and scattering debris.

The Conductor introduces himself by quoting his dialogue from the game. He explains that the player will have to fight him for the Time Piece and then flies back off-screen.

Checkpoint 1

The Conductor sends a series of attacks, including:

  • Spotlights falling and shooting lasers once again
  • The disco ball again, this time doing a fake out before slamming into the ground
  • A knife attack, where a knife flies from the top of the screen in a random direction while the background is dimmed
  • A car attack, where the screen zooms in to move the player to the center as four cars appear and rotate around the player. The cars then ram into the center, two at a time.
  • Flurries of knives appearing from the top and bottom
  • Repeats of the disco ball and knife attacks, this time with three of each at the same time instead of only one.

Checkpoint 2

I can't believe I let ye PECK NECKS on me train!
- The Conductor, The Battle of Award 42

The Conductor reappears on-screen to express his frustration to the player before again flying off and sending the next series of attacks:

  • Saws shot from the bottom of the screen in rows of three
  • Saws flying from the left and right
  • Saws rolling along the top and bottom, sending out sparks to prevent the player from camping
  • Repeats of the disco/knife attacks, this time with five of each.

Checkpoint 3

The car attack is sent again, this time with all four cars ramming into the center at the same time. After this, The Conductor comes down one final time and stomps on the ground in anger. With each stomp, patterns of spotlights fall from the ceiling along with some debris. The final attack is a double row of spotlights that the player must dash through.

Unfortunately, The Conductor did not notice that his sign reading "CONDUCTOR" was slowly falling from the ceiling due to his stomping, and he is crushed by it as the Time Piece flies out from him.

Trivia

  • There are plans to replace the 3D background with new parallax objects once the editor update is fully released.[1]
  • MotionIII did not originally intend for this level to have an actual boss character, but ultimately decided it would greatly help the level. This explains why many of the attacks do not actively feature The Conductor.[1]
    • This is the first time MotionIII has animated a boss character.[1]
