Description
Just your standard JSAB-style level with a few extra effects. It's short but I think it's pretty cool. (NOT a recreation)

Unlocked is a Moderate difficulty level created by MotionIII. It is his fourth uploaded level overall and is a Just Shapes & Beats inspired level. The design of this level is based off of the level of the same name in JSAB featuring many pink and black squares, but it is not a recreation and is rather an original take on the song.

Layout

Start

A pink square appears at the center of the screen and spins rapidly. "Track" enemies from JSAB approach from both sides of the screen. Gradually, four smaller squares emerge from the center square and start shooting bullets in random directions. Once all four squares have emerged, they start spinning together and form a square outline around the center square as the screen slowly zooms out. As the song drops, the squares quickly shrink down to a small size.

Checkpoint 1

More square outlines emerge from the now tiny center square, growing in size to the beat of the song. Each outline eventually "locks" in place. The screen is now covered with a total of 6 square outlines and the original square in the center. These then begin slowly spinning in alternating directions, forcing the player to dash through them periodically. Four sets of spinning lasers eventually emerge from the center, adding to the challenge.

As the song starts to build up, the lasers disappear and the square outlines shrink into the center, one by one. The center square slowly grows and starts spinner faster, culminating in the screen rapidly spinning around it.

Checkpoint 2

The spinning square outlines return and now move as a single unit, growing outward from the center to the beat. The player must time their dashes to pass through these growing squares. This attack repeats four times, with the squares spinning faster the last two times. At the end of each attack, the squares turn blue (meaning they cannot hurt the player) and move away.

The level ends with the screen returning to the standard zoom and the center square rapidly spinning as it emits dozens of small squares in all directions until it shrinks and disappears.

Trivia

  • The squares at checkpoint 2 were originally intended to grow twice as fast (the same speed they grow at checkpoint 1), but this speed was halved as it proved to be nearly impossible to dodge.[1]
