Lagunn

Lagunn is a character created by Subnautix and one of the main characters of the Spirit Mountain level collection. He first appeared in Monody, and is set to reappear in every level of the storyline.[1] Lagunn is a friend to the player, and acts as a guide on their ascent through Spirit Mountain towards a chance at resurrection.
History
Lagunn first appeared in the beginning of the Spirit Mountain storyline, Monody. Explaining Spirit Mountain to the player, he leaves with him while dancing to the beat as the two begin their ascent in the daylight. Curious about why Hal wants to resurrect so badly, Lagunn is told by Hal that their life isn’t finished. Eventually, Lagunn gathers wood and creates a campfire for the two to stay the night.[2]
Hal quickly grows impatient as Lagunn sleeps, however, and leaves by themselves. Lagunn eventually catches up to the player after they run into a Mask, fighting off the enemy alongside them. He tells the player to let him know when they go off by themselves before the two continue their ascent.[3]
Description
Appearance
Lagunn is a white circle with a black outline. He has round eyes and two circular white hands. Some parts of his body like his eyes can become orange when he feels a great emotion, or during fights. He also has a mouth with two sharp teeth that are sometimes visible.
Personality
Lagunn is nice to the player and appears to be both cheery and playful. He always thinks of others before himself, and is incredibly empathic. This can work against him - he sometimes neglects its own health at the cost of protecting others, for example burning his hand while tackling the Mask to protect Hal.[1][3] He is content with being a ghost, wondering why the player desires to return to life so much. Despite this, he remains committed to helping the player return to their unfinished life, saying it’s “what a friend is for”.[2]

Lagunn has a variety of abilities that are mainly fire-based:[1]
- Shooting orange energy beams
- Spitting fire
- Lighting torches

Trivia
- Lagunn likely died a long time ago, as he does not remember his life or death. However, this doesn’t bother him much - he lives his “life” in the moment.[1]
- Lagunn’s knowledge and ease of climbing up the mountain suggests he may have done so in the past.[4]
