What's a few hundred people when we can save hundreds of potential heroes from the mind-breaking truths the stars so generously bestow upon them? And we can save hundreds of trillions of people if we can perfect this in the long run. You trust me, Canis. I find that I will be trusting you as well to not breathe a word of this miscalculation.
- Sirius, The Heart and Sirius Lore

Sirius is a character in Heartstrings created by Noodlekin. He is the Navigator Star who watches over the Heartstrings universe, and the creator of the Heart. He appears in Birth of the Sun, where Nova sees him in a vision alongside several other Navigator Stars.

History

Before becoming a Navigator Star, Sirius was a Hero. His experience as one was far from pleasant, with only the memory of the weight and responsibility he carried remaining. As a response, once he became a star he spearheaded an initiative towards a more hands-off "Artifact Project" aimed at protecting worlds with little involvement from the Stars and no Heroes. He worked on it alongside his apprentice star Canis, and used the universe he watched over as a testing site for it. Sirius created several artifacts that would protect worlds by themselves, all of which were powered by the arcane material Aether. One of these more recent artifacts was The Heart, which was sent to Arcadia - the setting of the Heartsrings storyline - where it would provide healing to residents alongside having the ability to protect itself with a "perfect hero".[1]

However, there was an oversight in the Heart that had drastic consequences - Tethering. Over generations of use for healing, Arcadian citizens became intertwined with the Heart to the point that any damage to the Heart would hurt anyone who was generationally dependent on it. Despite Canis mentioning this to their mentor, Sirius revealed that he had always known of this consequence and opted to not fix it so as to see how Arcadia's residents would react. This horrified Canis, who was intimidated into keeping it a secret from other Navigator Stars. Sirius and Canis then went on to deliver the Heart to Arcadia.[1]

Description

Appearance

Sirius resembles an eight-pointed star with three visible layers. The first layer is light blue and comprises of his face and main body. The second layer is a rotating ring with four spikes attached, with the same color as the first. The third and outermost layer is similar to the second, being another rotating ring with four spikes, but with a more sky-blue like color and usually rotating in the opposite direction. In addition to this, eight small white circles orbit separately from the outermost layer.

Sirius' left eye appears to be replaced by a white object resembling a compass rose, and on his right eye, a monocle is visible. His mouth is a simple arrow shape.

Personality

Sirius is ambitious, always pushing himself towards innovation. He is an incredibly skilled engineer and innovator. Sirius believes that the Navigator Stars should take a hands-off approach to protecting worlds, saving Heroes like he was from the pressure of saving an entire universe. He views the universe he watches as more of an experiment than anything else. Sirius only avoids experimentation if something stands in his way that he would rather not bother against. Despite the failures of some of his projects, Sirius continued on unbothered. He has lost touch with his former mortality as a Hero, and values the universe as a whole over individual lives.[1]

Abilities

  • Attacking with star bullets
  • Summoning small stars that explode into bullets
  • Light manipulation, similar to other Navigator Stars

Trivia

  • Sirius' Artifact Project is said by Noodlekin to be inspired by how many storylines in Project Arrhythmia center around a powerful artifact that is integral to a kingdom or region, and they even personally headcanon that multiple other stories may have been the result of it.[1]
    • Noodlekin's lore video explaining Sirius also shows the Tree and some underground rocks from Just Shapes and Beats as examples of artifacts Sirius may have created.
