For creators of custom levels, see Category:Creator.

I won’t be dramatic, {{s_display_name}}. I expected you to make it this far. You’re used to a shocked reaction, I know. You didn’t need to be a Master to beat those.
- Creator, Impact of TY-77

Creator, stylized as {CREATOR}, is a character made by DXL44. They are the main force behind The Synthwave Trials, having created them alongside presumably many other levels. They exist in the abstract realm of Infinity, a realm between fiction and reality and beyond the setting of the levels themselves.[2][3]

History

The Synthwave Trials

In the prologue story to the Synthwave Trials, Creator discusses the completion of the first set of Trials with another abstract being - “Judge”. They call the Trials hard to ignore, and are soon asked by Judge why there were created. Only saying that they “wanted to” initially, Creator is then asked how that is different from much else. This leads to Judge inquiring further, which in turn has Creator looking forward to the player arriving for the Trials as a potential way to find a true answer.

Once the player completes all of the Synthwave Trials, Creator appears to them and addresses them directly for the first time. They dismiss the levels as not a true challenge, and ponder about the possibility of the two meeting again in the future. Creator leaves saying that the player already knows where to find their next trial.

Other Appearances

Creator appears in the background of Electrify, summoning a prefab of Cryo who they quickly disassemble into shapes. Gradually, Cryo is rebuilt into Watt - an electric version of the originally ice-themed robot. After a short attack, however, Watt breaks apart in a similar manner to how Cryo did - implied to be Creator's doing.

In Birth of the Sun, the prologue to Project Elevatia, Creator is the otherworldly voice instructing Nova to form the order of Navigator Stars. Nova continues to receive vague visions of Creator after this - they remain unaware of what Creator is, only knowing that they are from some outside space.[4][5]

Creator narrates the story of the level Preacher directly to the player. In it, they explain how DXL was manipulated into turning on the player and fighting them in Beastmode. The level starts with Creator seemingly confused as to why the player is there, and soon realizing they desire a story. Creator agrees to tell it, calling it "a missing chapter in one you've heard" and hoping the player will learn something from it.[6]

Description

Appearance

Creator appears to be made of two diamond outlines in the style of a Trials logo, with one thicker than the other. Within this border is an “x” shape that has been shown to rotate occasionally. However, this is only how they are represented in levels rather than how they would appear in reality.[7]

Personality

Creator appears to view the player as a necessity. They require the player for the Trials, and see them as the needed “independent variable” for them to process. They seem to want to find why they create specific things - when asked why they created the Synthwave Trials, Creator simply responded by saying they either wanted to or had to without giving a direct answer. Creator has some wit as well, remarking at Judge for their judgements and flat questions.

Abilities

Creator has the power to create and seemingly control the levels that the player experiences. They have not attacked directly, and have only set into motion the Trials that the player faces. Polaris, a Navigator Star, presumes they are a "storyteller".[5]

Trivia

  • Creator’s speech is represented with bolded text everywhere. It is almost always accompanied by a shaky effect on the text itself.
  • Creator's appearance is often used by DXL44 as a logo.
  • It is ambiguous as to how "real" Creator is, being left up to the interpretation of the player.[8]
  • According to DXL44, whether or not Creator is a god "depends on perspective".[2][9]
  • Symbols resembling Creator appear on official designs for several of DXL44's persona characters, including DXL. They are an intentional recurring element with no lore significance.[10]
